Botanical printing is an excellent way to take advantage of the nature around us to create art on fabrics and paper. In this workshop, you will learn about locally available plants that can be used, how to pre-treat the fabric, how to obtain leaf impressions, and the different techniques to manipulate the results.
To make better use of the post-work time, the fabrics will already have had the mordant process.
Each student will dye and take home some cotton swatches (large enough to make masks, napkins, etc.), a cloth bag, and two postcards. Additionally, they will carry a booklet full of information to be able to replicate the technique at home. Participants will confidently head out to explore the nature around them and use it to create and breathe new life into old clothes.
